Four Generations, One Well At A Time
About Putnam Well Drilling, Inc.
We're a family-owned water well company based in Welaka, in Putnam County, Florida. We've been drilling, repairing, and servicing wells across Northeast Florida since the early 1970s — same family, same straight-talk approach, the whole way through.
Our story
Started by Guy and Dorothy Winkleman in the early 1970s
Guy and Dorothy Winkleman started this company after moving to Welaka in the early 1970s. Guy earned his Water Well Contractor's License and built the business over more than four decades before retiring in 2014. Today the company is run by their son Tom and his wife Pam, with the next generation — Hunter Winkleman and Baylee Kinard — handling the day-to-day work of running crews, meeting customers on-site, and keeping the business the same way it's always been run: local, and straight with people.
We've watched this part of Florida grow for decades, which means we've drilled in the ground under most of it — river-front lots, high sand ridge country, old farmland, new subdivisions on raw land. Those jobs are in the well records, and so is everybody else's work. That's what lets us read the records for your address, know what they actually mean, and hand you a real price before a rig ever leaves our yard.
Licensed & insured
What that means for you
We hold a Florida Water Well Contractor's License and carry insurance on every job we run. That's what lets us pull the well construction permit for your property and stand behind the work once the rig leaves. Our license number is available on request — ask when you call, or we'll include it on your quote paperwork.

What people say
Neighbors, not strangers
Most of our work comes from word of mouth across the counties we serve. We'd rather earn the next job from the last one than from a sales pitch.
“Completely lost water, called Putnam Well, Hunter was there in 45 minutes and fixed the problem. Always does a great job.”— Putnam County customer
